Jammu, March 14:
The government is preparing to run small 7-metre electric buses on the busy roads of Jammu.
According to sources, around 200 electric buses of 12 metres and 9 metres length are currently being operated in the two winter capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar.
But mostly on the outskirts of Jammu city.
Initially, these buses were run on the main routes in the city including Shastri Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Gandhinagar, Jewel, Indira Chowk etc. Due to their length, it was opposed by private transporters.
Due to this, these electric buses were diverted to rural areas by the administration for the purpose of running on various routes of Jammu city under the Jammu Smart City Mission. Many electric buses have also been diverted to other districts like Samba, Kathua, Reasi, Udhampur etc. by ignoring the rules.
Under the Prime Minister’s Electric Bus Scheme, 200 new electric buses will soon go to Jammu and Kashmir.
It has been decided to buy about 70 percent of these buses 7 meters long.
With the operation of these buses, people will be able to get public transport facility closer to their homes. They will also reduce dependence on private vehicles.
In fact, the government aims to further strengthen the electric public transport network in the coming years.
