Jammu, September 19:
Life hasn’t returned to normal in Rajiv Colony, adjacent to Vikram Chowk, even 23 days after the devastating rains. Some streets are filled with debris. Some families are still forced to sleep on rooftops. Debris in front of their homes prevents them from leaving.
The alley leading into Rajiv Colony from near Jungle.com is still covered in debris. Furthermore, two smaller alleys near the Tawi Dam, near the shutter shop, are still blocked by debris and mud. Consequently, two families here are still unable to open their homes.
With great difficulty, these families cleared the debris from their homes, but due to the blocked streets and lack of drainage, they are forced to rent rooms to spend their time. Clearing these streets is continuing at a war footing, but it is likely to take another four to five days to remove hundreds of tons of debris.
