Jammu, March 31:
In Jammu and Kashmir, passing of vehicles on manual basis will be stopped. Instead of this, vehicles will now be passed in automatic testing stations. The Transport Department has started the process for this. The department has sought applications from interested people to start centers. There is a plan to open a center in every district, so that transparency can be brought in the fitness test of vehicles in the state.
This scheme will prove to be very helpful in preventing increasing road accidents in the state. Latest equipment will be used to check vehicles in an automated and scientific manner at the district level. Machine-based testing will bring more transparency. Manual testing at the RTO level by Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVI) will be stopped.
The Automated Testing Stations (ATS) to be built in every district will have two lanes. One lane will be for three-wheelers, light vehicles and the other lane will be for medium and heavy vehicles. A minimum of two acres of land will be mandatory for this. Applicants can also set up two-wheeler lanes as per their wish.
