In order to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism, the Language Club of GDC Chatroo observed the International Mother Language Day.
The main function which was organised under the guidance and supervision of Dr Shafqat Hussain Rafiqi Principal GDC Chatroo was held in the examination hall of the college.
The highlight of the day was an intra-college microtheme contest which started with an introductory speech by Dr Jamsheed Ahmad Convener Language Club and Chief Organiser of the event.
He stressed upon the importance of such initiatives and urged the students to actively participate to chisel and hone their talents and creative abilities.
He deliberated upon the cultural and linguistic diversity of the area and urged the audience to act as harbingers of peace and multiculturalism.
Nine students participated in the contest and submitted their microthemes on the topic “Linguistic and Cultural Diversity of Chatroo”.
Dr Ashaq Hussain Convener of the event urged the students to play an active role in passing on the message of the beauty of mother languages among the common masses.
Dr J V Manhas, Dr Muddasser Nazar and Dr Shabir Ahmad acted as the judges for the competition.
Masoofa Jan from semester 3rd and Ashira from semester 5th bagged second and third prize respectively whereas Saima Tabassum from semester 3rd got the first prize.
