Jammu, December 7:
With time, a big change is being seen in the lifestyle of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Instead of saving too much of what they are earning, people have now learned to spend freely. Especially after Covid, people have adopted the habits of eating, wearing, traveling and celebrating small joys as big events. An example of this is the weddings held here.
The result of this is that the wedding industry has also made its mark among all kinds of industries here. Wedding planners are ready with small and big packages. Wedding businessmen say that weddings with packages of Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore are increasing in the state.
Businessmen say that ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the countrymen to come to Jammu and Kashmir. And have destination weddings instead of going abroad. On the trend of the wedding industry, entrepreneur Ruchika Gupta says that Jammu and Kashmir has its own importance in terms of tourism. People are getting employment in the hospitality sector. In weddings, people are getting live performances of the country’s number one orchestra and big singers.
Destination wedding business is worth 100 crores. According to Dr. Amit Wanchoo, CEO of a wedding company, the destination wedding business in the state is worth more than 100 crores in a season. There has been an increase of 15 percent in this as compared to 2023. Usually the number of guests in these ranges from 200 to 1200. In these weddings, there is expenditure on hotels, transportation, food, catering, decoration etc. In Kashmir, there is also expenditure on Shikara booking. Local traders benefit the most from this.
