Heavy rains in Ladakh increase the risk of landslides and floods, red alert issued

Jammu, September 4:

Due to heavy rains in eastern Ladakh for the last three days. There is a threat of landslides and floods in the area. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert and advised people to remain alert.

Sonam Lotus, Director of Meteorological Department, Ladakh, said that the intensity of rain is likely to remain high in Leh and Kargil along with central Ladakh. It has been raining continuously for 72 hours in eastern Ladakh and it is also raining intermittently in Leh. He said that the weather is likely to improve from September 4. The administration in Ladakh is taking full caution to face the challenges of the weather.

As a precautionary measure, the local administration has shifted all the residents living in flood and landslide prone areas to safer places. The situation arising out of heavy rains is being constantly monitored.
