Srinagar, January 24:
The Jammu and Kashmir government has started the process of geo-tagging to preserve its historical and cultural heritage Chinar trees. The initiative aims to strengthen the monitoring and conservation of Chinar trees.
So that accurate data about their physical condition can be collected and steps can be taken for their conservation.
On Thursday, this process was started in Kashmir by Dr. Syed Tariq, a scientist at the Forest Research Institute. Dr. Tariq said that Chinar trees are oxygen producers and have their own ecosystem.
Which plays an important role in the ecology of Kashmir. The aim of this project is to monitor the stock of Chinar trees and give them a digital identity, so that a record of the status of every tree can be kept.
Under geo-tagging, each Chinar tree has been provided a unique Aadhaar number which is linked to the technological initiative of Digital India.
So far, 28,560 Chinar trees have been geo-tagged and their physical characteristics have been collected.
These trees have been locked with a QR code, which when scanned, users can get complete information about that tree.
The Forest Department plans to further promote this initiative under the Save Chinar campaign.
Due to which a databank will be prepared for the conservation of Chinar trees. Dr. Tariq said that this is a positive step and soon this data will be brought into the public domain.
This will make everyone aware of the importance of Chinar trees and their care. We hope that there will be 30,000-35,000 Chinars in Jammu and Kashmir.
