Jammu, October 28:
Chhath Puja, a great festival of folk faith that lasted for four days, concluded on Tuesday with the offering of Arghya to the rising sun. The occasion witnessed a wonderful confluence of reverence and enthusiasm in the entire surrounding areas including the temple city Jammu.
Thousands of devotees gathered on the banks of the Tawi river, canals, reservoirs and ponds early in the morning and offered prayers to the rising Sun God and prayed for the happiness, prosperity and welfare of the family.
Chhath devotees offered prayers with full rituals. Women dressed in traditional attire offered Arghya in a soup decorated with fruits, thekua and other offerings. The atmosphere reverberated with chants of ‘Jai Chhathi Maiya’ at the ghats.
Elaborate security and sanitation arrangements were made by the administration at Hari Ki Pauri, Dhaundhali Dakki Tawi Beach, Canal, Digyana and other ghats in Jammu. Local social organisations and volunteers also played an active role in assisting the devotees. Rajya Sabha member BJP state president Sat Sharma, former minister Priya Sethi and several other senior leaders also attended the prayers.
