Jammu, February 20:
A car driver rammed into police personnel during a routine checkpoint near village Kothe Shaikh on the Ring Road in Miran Sahib area, police said on Sunday.
Head constable Harnam Singh, who was on duty, was seriously injured in the incident.
According to the information, the naka was set up on the Ring Road under the supervision of Miran Sahib police station in-charge Inspector Jitendra Singh.
Meanwhile, an attempt was made to stop a Swift car coming from the toll plaza for investigation. The driver, instead of stopping, ran over the vehicle on the police personnel and fled from the spot.
According to sources, the number on the Swift car was found to be fake.
The number shown in the car turned out to be that of a tractor. It led the police to suspect that the accused might be involved in illegal activities. In an attempt to escape, the accused hit the policeman.
The injured head constable has been immediately admitted to GMC. His condition is said to be critical. SP Headquarters Irshad Ahmed Rather said that the police are conducting raids in search of the accused and they will be arrested soon.
