Jammu Sep 13: Dogra Youth (Janta ki Aawaaz) hold a protest demonstration against the UT administration on Sunday and urged Jammu and Kashmir LG declare late Maharaja Hari Singh’s ji birth anniversary as a public holiday. The protest was led by Bhanu Partap Singh Goria. Aggresive Dogra Youth raised slogans against the goverment.

Addressing the media, Bhanu Partap Singh Goria said that from political parties to civil society and social organizations, everyone wants holiday on September 23 as a mark of respect for the great Maharaja.

Bhanu said that for many years there had been a strong demand to declare the birthday of Hari Singh as a public holiday. “In fact, former MLC had a resolution to this effect passed in the legislative council and also passed resolution in the house of JMC some years ago, but so far no action has been taken. Apart from that he was a progressive and a far-sighted ruler who instituted many social and economic reforms for the welfare of the people.

Bhanu also questioned the silence of the BJP on the issue. “BJP has fought for declaration of Maharaja’s birthday as holiday since 1947. But when they are in the government/Power, they are silent. He urge the LG, G C Murmu to declare this day as a public holiday
