Jammu, July 18:
Congress staged a strong protest in Jammu on Thursday. During this, there was a scuffle between the protesters and the police while moving towards the Raj Bhavan. It is being told that the police also detained some Congress leaders.
Congress today protested against the increasing terrorist attacks before the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. They say that BJP’s claims of ending terrorism are completely hollow. More than ten terrorist incidents have taken place in two months, in which common people as well as soldiers have lost their lives. BJP is holding meeting after meeting, but is not getting any success.
At the same time, they opposed giving more powers to the Lieutenant Governor. Congress leaders said that the BJP could clearly see its defeat in the assembly elections. Therefore, additional powers were given to the Lieutenant Governor even before the elections.
Hundreds of Congress workers, led by Congress in-charge of Jammu and Kashmir affairs Bharat Singh Solanki, state Congress Committee president Vikar Rasool Wani and several other former ministers and former MLAs, came out of the party headquarters on Residency Road and started marching towards the Raj Bhavan.
Though policemen deployed in large numbers tried to stop them, the angry and slogan-shouting protesters crossed the barricades and marched for nearly a kilometre, following which their leaders were detained and taken away in police vehicles.
