Snowfall wreaks havoc in Kashmir, Mughal Road and Bandipora-Gurez road closed

Srinagar, December 22:
The 40-day period of severe cold in the Kashmir Valley began on Sunday with snowfall in the mountains and rain in the plains.

The Mughal road has been closed due to snowfall in Pir Ki Gali. There has also been snowfall in Gurez. After this, the Bandipora-Gurez road has also been closed.
There has been heavy snowfall in many parts of Ladakh including Kargil and Drass. Traffic is likely to be disrupted at Zojila Pass due to snowfall.

This road connects Shopian district with Rajouri and Poonch. The road has become extremely slippery making it unsafe for vehicles to move. The work of clearing the road will be started as soon as the weather improves. The impact of snowfall is also being seen in Bandipora district of north Kashmir. The 86-km-long Bandipora-Gurez road has been completely closed for traffic. Due to the snowfall that started on Saturday night, about 4-5 inches of snow has accumulated on this route by Sunday morning.
