Sikh students assaulted at Commerce College; students take to the streets over desecration of turbans

Jammu, September 19:

Angry over the incident of assault on some Sikh students and disrespect to turbans at the Commerce College on Canal Road on Thursday. Today Sikh students and members of Sikh organisations staged a protest by blocking the road outside the college for one and a half hours.

Sikh students alleged that a Commerce College student, along with some outsiders, assaulted them. They attempted to hurt their religious sentiments. They alleged that the attackers were armed with sharp weapons. The Nawabad police have registered a case and begun investigation.

Sikh students allege that a student suspended from the college sits in the college park without his uniform. He misbehaves with other students along with his friends. On Thursday at 11:30 a.m., he got into a fight with some Sikh students. He then returned with 10 to 15 young men from outside. He assaulted the Sikh students and desecrated their turbans. Angered by this, the students protested inside and outside the college on the street.

Upon receiving information about the desecration of the turban. The members of various Sikh organizations reached the spot and started protesting with the students.

The students alleged that the accused student had previously tried to fight and spoil the atmosphere. But the college administration did not take any concrete action against him. Due to which such circumstances have arisen now.

Despite this, why is he not stopped from entering the college? The college management has been informed about this several times.
