19-years old Sheetal Devi, the world number two Paralympic archer from Loidhar village in Kishtwar district of Jammu division recently participated in the Paris Paralympics Games. She brought laurels to the country by winning a bronze medal in the mixed team event of the archery competition.
In the Paralympics, while all the archers shot the target by loading the arrow on the bow with their hands, Sheetal Devi did this feat with her feet. She won the bronze medal for India by loading the arrow on the bow with her feet and then aiming at the target, thus winning the hearts of 150 crore Indians as well as people of the entire world.
This is the reason why the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself met this brave daughter and took an autograph from Sheetal on the jersey and kept it with himself. Sheetal presented the autographed jersey to the Prime Minister by writing on the jersey with her feet. Sheetal writes very easily with her feet.
Sheetal’s dream is to win a gold medal for India in the Paralympics and for this she will soon start practicing. She has won about 10 medals at the international level so far and this journey of success is still continuing.Â
Sheetal created history by winning two gold medals and one silver medal in the Para Asiad Games in 2023 last year. Along with this, Sheetal Devi also won gold and silver medals in the Asian competition. Seeing the talent of Sheetal Devi, she has also received the Arjuna Award for the year 2023 from the President of India Draupadi Murmu on January 9 this year. She is the first player of the country to receive the Arjuna Award at the age of just 17.
