It is known by various names, including Sharad Purnima, Sharad Utsav, Raas Purnima, Kojaagari Purnima, and Kamala Purnima. To attain happiness, prosperity, a long life, good health, and wealth, people should perform a special puja in the morning, taking a bath, self-worship, and worshiping Lord Ganesha, Lakshminarayan, and their Ishta Deva. After that, they should have a meal only after offering Arghya to the moon. The Sharad Purnima date is Saturday, October 28th, starting at 4:18 AM and lasting until 1:54 AM. In a statement issued to mercury times, according to Indian time, this lunar eclipse will start at 01:05 AM (25-05) on the night of October 28/29 and will end at 02:24 AM (26-24) late at night. This eclipse will be visible all over India. In other words, the total duration of this eclipse will be 1 hour and 18 minutes. On Saturday, October 28, the moonrise will occur at 4:06 PM. According to Indian time, the Sutak (inauspicious time) will begin at 4:05 PM in the evening of October 28. In this eclipse, the moon’s disk will be partially covered from the south. It is said that during Sharad Purnima night, moonlight is like nectar. On this night, people prepare Kheer and place it under the moonlight. It is believed that the moonlight bestows a special kind of energy upon the Kheer, making it beneficial for health. The next day, people take a bath and offer the Kheer as Prasad to the deities. Then, they offer the Prasad to three Brahmins or young girls and distribute the Prasad within their families. Consuming this Kheer is said to help alleviate various ailments.Those observing the Purnima fast should perform moon worship, offer Arghya, and other rituals after the eclipse ends.
On Sharad Purnima night, people are advised to watch the moon for 25 to 30 minutes to improve their eye health. They should chant specific mantras and perform rituals according to their beliefs and traditions to gain the moon’s blessings.
According to mythological stories, Lord Krishna performed the Maharaas with the Gopis on this day. Hence, it is also known as Raas Purnima. It is believed that on Sharad Purnima night, the moon’s rays turn into nectar. People follow a custom of offering Kheer to the moon and then consuming it as Prasad.
