IOS Smile rally organised in Jammu

Medical science has various specialities and most of the general public have certain knowledge about whom to approach for problems related to eye/ skin / bones / etc .
But when it comes to dentistry very few people have the knowledge about , whom to approach for different dental ailments .
Orthodontics is the first specialty of Dentistry, it’s since 56years that Indian Orthodontic Society was formed . Inspite of more than half the century of its existence, very few people are aware about whom to approach for irregular and crooked teeth and developing deformed jaws . Presently only 3% of dentists are specialised in Orthodontics.
Indian Orthodontic Society in its endeavour to create awareness of Orthodontics among general practitioners and is organising a nationwide car rally , rally is divided in five zones , north south east west and central zone . Theme of this rally is focused on creating the awareness among people to approach the right specialist for problems related to position of teeth.
This is the first time UT of Jammu & Kashmir is participating in such kind of awareness endeavour of Indian Orthodontic Society.
The event was led by Chief Organiser of the Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) smile rally Jammu Dr Akshay Gupta HOD Orthodontics of Indira Gandhi Government Dental college Jammu and participated by all the Orthodontic specialists of Jammu and neighboring towns of Jammu.
Among other prominent Orthodontists present were Dr Rishabh Gupta , Dr Abhimanyu Rohmetra , Dr Rohit Gupta , Dr Anur Gupta , Dr Aseem Sharma , Dr Tanushree ,Dr Amit Khajuria, Dr Simran Kour , Dr Manjeet Singh Dr Vidushi koul , Dr Nikita Gupta , Dr Madhav Jandial. Senior Dental Practitioner Dr Rohin Gupta and all other Doctors for rally assembled at Shri Raghunath Temple at 6.15AM.
Chief Guest of the occasion Dr Udham Dass Sharma SDM North Jammu , Guest of Honour Former MLC Shri Ramesh Arora , Principal of Dental College Dr Rakesh Gupta , Deputy Director Dentistry Dr Sanjay Sharma , were present in the event and flagged off the rally at 7AM from Shri Raghunath Mandir , from there rally proceeded to city chowk , Shalimar road, Indira chowk , BC road , Amphalla chowk , and than cumulated at Hari Niwas palace
In its message Dr Akshay Gupta said that awareness of the specialty is the need of the hour , as very little is known by other medical practitioners, about Orthodontics ,leave apart general masses . Also he conveyed that nowadays some Aligners companies are luring people for cheaper in house delivery of Aligners for treatment of irregular teeth , but be it Aligner of any other mode of treatment chosen by a patient, it should be done only by the IOS certified specialist orthodontists, as getting treatment done by non specialists may lead to serious dental health issues .
Dr Udham Dass Sharma SDM North congratulated Dr Akshay Gupta and entire gathering of doctors and encouraged them to work for a common cause , he also urged the need to form a study group in the region , so that orthodontic professional of Jammu be known at National level.
Ramesh Arora Former MLC in his message Congratulated all Orthodontic fraternity of Jammu region for joining together for upliftment of the profession , also wishes everyone to have knowledge exchange programs , thereby raising the professional standards .
It was followed by Saraswati Vandana by twin sisters (S Sisters) at Hari Niwas Palace lawns where dignitaries were presented with momentous. Later certificate of participation were awarded to all doctors by the Chief Guests.
