“Killer roads of Jammu and Kashmir have taken several thousand lives in fatal road accidents over the years but all the previous governments, instead of building safe roads, rendered mere lip services and distributed tax payers’ money amongst them to silence the voice of affected families, who lost their dear ones including bread earners and even children”. In a statement issued to mercury times, now that BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is laying emphasis on building massive highways in J&K, the roads will be safe and many precious lives will be saved, said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K Executive Member Raman Suri, who added that the 25 major National Highway projects worth Rs 11,721 crore involving 259 kilometre roads, highways and tunnels, that are coming up here, will not only boost economic activities but also help people travel safe and have access to the best amenities including healthcare facilities.
He said that during NC, PDP and Congress regimes several fatal accidents, especially on hilly roads of Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Bhaderwah and even Poonch and Rajouri resulted in the death of several people but those sitting at the helm of affairs never bothered to build safe roads. These leaders were so insensitive that they continued to enjoy power but neither took up the matter with any Union Government nor cared to themselves built safe roads for people. This is for first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that several hundred kilometres of safe roads are being built by Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government. Seven more National Highways and roads in the Union Territory including six in Jammu and one in Kashmir will improve connectivity and also help people travel comfortably. Projects like Delhi-Katra Expressway are going to change fate of the people of J&K and provide them ample opportunities in the days to come.
Raman Suri said, the BJP government is committed to the welfare of people and such projects of national importance are not intended to benefit a particular region or constituency but is going to help each and every inhabitant of Jammu and Kashmir besides writing a new history of developments, peace and prosperity. The projects announced by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari are to be completed in a time-bound manner, which never happened during the previous regimes.
