Jammu, July 23:
Due to mudslide triggered by heavy rains in Ramban district, hundreds of vehicles were stranded on National highway. Many pilgrims returning from the Amarnath Yatra were also stranded midway.
Heavy rains have been continuing in Jammu region for the last three days. Although officials said that there is no major threat of flood at present, the water level in most of the rivers and drains has increased considerably.
A sudden flood led to a collapse of debris at a tunnel near Magerkot in Ramban district. It blocked the highway. Another mudslide also occurred near Seri due to heavy rains.
The administration has immediately sent relief agencies to the spot and the work of removing the debris is going on. Efforts are being made to open the road as soon as the weather clears. Till then people have been appealed not to travel on this route.
Officials said that due to the road closure, many common pilgrims and two convoys of Amarnath pilgrims are stranded at different places. It is expected that the traffic may resume in the coming few hours as soon as the weather improves.
