Jammu, March 10:
A heated exchange of words was witnessed between the opposition and the ruling party in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday. In the Assembly, the MLAs raised various issues including the killing of civilians in Kathua and the Gulmarg Fashion Show controversy.
As soon as the House assembled, members of the NC, PDP and two independents stood up and raised the issue of the fashion show. They termed it obscene and alleging that it had hurt people’s sentiments.
The MLAs demanded an inquiry into the holding of such shows during Ramzan. PDP MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz raised the demand. NC MLA Tanveer Sadiq also raised the issue. The fashion show held in the winter tourist resort of Gulmarg during the month of Ramzan has been widely criticised.
BJP MLAs raised the issue of killings in Kathua, but strongly advocated for continuation of Question Hour in the House. Billawar MLA Satish Sharma said that the killings of civilians in Billawar have raised concerns.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather tried several times to bring the House in order. He said he would give time to members after the Question Hour, but the disruption continued. The Speaker later informed the House that he had received two adjournment motions from Congress’ Nizamuddin Bhat and NC MLA Rameshwar Singh.
