Political uproar over reservation in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu, January 1:

There is a political tussle going on to rationalize reservation in government jobs. People from Jammu to Kashmir have different aspirations regarding this. Political parties have different views on the issue. But everyone’s eyes are on the cabinet sub-committee formed by the government.

From the ruling party to the opposition, everyone is giving their own arguments. On one hand, there is SO 176 of 15 March 2024, under which reservation has been arranged in the state. On the other hand, there is a matter of concern regarding open merit. Political turmoil continues regarding this.

Ruling party MP Agha Ruhullah Mehdi to Pulwama PDP MLA Waheed Parra, everyone is demanding changes in the current reservation system. On other hand, BJP is considering it nothing more than a political issue. Social organizations have a different opinion on this issue. They are accusing political parties of weakening the reservation.

People from political parties and social organizations discussed these topics. They also said that caste census is the solution to the current issue of reservation. They called upon the state government to conduct caste census on the lines of Bihar.

Caste census was stopped in the country after 1931. If it had happened, there would have been no problem today. The reservation given by the central government to scheduled castes, tribes and other backward classes has not been implemented in the state. Here people were given reservation in the name of RBA, which is not there anywhere in the country. 13 commissions have been formed for OBCs in the state, but there was not a single OBC representative.
