To understand the operations of Pradhan Mantri Janaushadi Kendra, Jammu and Kashmir, BJP, Secretary, Rekha Mahajan, visited a medical store running under this scheme in the premises of Government Hospital Akhnoor and inspected the availability of medicines for the needy people.
She was informed that the medicines sold through the kendra are of low rates and that the prices are 60-70 per cent less as compared to the market.
In a statement issued to mercury times, Rekha Mahajan, while appreciating the Union government’s policy of opening of such Janaushadi Kendras under Pradhan Mantri Janaushadi Yojna (PMJAY) for the benefit of the people, said that it is indeed a big relief to the poor families, who cannot bear the expenses of treatment of their dear ones. It has induced a sense of confidence among them.
She said that as per her information 122 medical stores under this scheme have already been established throughout J&K and that one hundred eight more such Jan Aushadhi Kendras are being opened across the UT, which will be dedicated to general public by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on 24 April, during his visit to Palli Panchayat in Samba district.
Rekha said that these Janaushadi Kendras will make available quality medicines, consumables and surgical items at affordable prices for all, reduce out of pocket expenditure of consumers/patients and dispel the prevalent notion that low priced generic medicines are of inferior quality or are less effective. For women, it will ensure cheap and easy availability of the menstrual health services (Janaushadhi ‘Suvidha’ sanitary napkins) across India.
Moreover, it will also generate employment by engaging individual entrepreneurs in the opening of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana Kendras.
Rekha stressed upon the people to prefer generic medicines sold under PMJAY through Janaushadi Kendra, as the same are cheap and as effective as other ones.
She also termed opening of such a large number of Janaushadi Kendras as a big boost to the healthcare of the people.
The BJP leader urged upon all stake holders, especially the doctors, to prescribe these medicines to the patients so that they get benefit from the medicines provided by the government in Jan Aushidhi Kendras. The medicines should not get expired lying in the medicine stores, which will make government suffer heavy losses. We should all contribute in fulfilling PM’s mission of providing low cost medicines, she added.
