During ‘Operation DIGGI-2’ in the Uri sector, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have foiled a major infiltration attempt.
In a joint operation in the Buchar area near the Line of Control, army personnel killed a Pakistani terrorist. According to the army, this terrorist was trying to infiltrate and enter the Indian border.
According to the information, J&K Police had received a specific intelligence input regarding an infiltration attempt in Buchar, Uri sector. Based on this information, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and Police on the intervening night of 14-15 March.
During the operation, the soldiers noticed the suspicious movement of a terrorist in the dense forest. The alert soldiers immediately cordoned off and challenged the terrorist. In response, the terrorist started firing indiscriminately. The army personnel retaliated and killed the terrorist.
A huge cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the Pakistani terrorist who was killed during this encounter. The seizures include an AK rifle, pistol and cartridges. This seizure indicates that the terrorist was planning a major attack.
The search operation is still going on, the army said. Security forces are carrying out search operations in the area fearing the presence of another militant.
