Jammu, January 19:
Security forces launched a search operation in Kishtwar district on Monday morning to search for the terrorists. Havildar Gajendra Singh was martyred in this encounter and the injured soldiers are still undergoing treatment.
The campaign was launched on Sunday in Sonar village near Dur-Singhpora in the Chhatra area. During the search operation, the terrorists suddenly launched a grenade attack, due to which eight army personnel were injured. Most of the jawans have suffered injuries due to shrapnel.
The operation had to be called off late Sunday night due to dense forest, high hills and low visibility. Several teams of the army, police and paramilitary forces were again deployed in the area in the early hours of Monday. A tight cordon has been formed in the entire area to prevent the terrorists from escaping. The search is being carried out with the help of drones and sniffer dogs.
Officials say that two to three terrorists, who are said to be associated with Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed, may be trapped in the area. However, there was no new contact with the terrorists till the latest information was received.
The operation has been named ‘Operation Trashi-I’. The joint operation is being carried out in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Army’s White Knight Corps said on social media platform X. The Army has appreciated the courage and professionalism of the soldiers in difficult situations.
Security agencies have intensified anti-militancy operations across Jammu region in view of the upcoming Republic Day. Intelligence agencies have received inputs that Pakistan-based terror handlers are trying to send more terrorists into the area.
