National Awami United Party held a protest demonstration at Jammu under the leadership of chief spokesperson Bupinder Sharma.
Lambasting the present dispensation for opening flood gates for sale of Liquor in J&K especially Jammu by disempowering the Jammu in real sense. He questioned that which leadership in past in any part of world had ever tried to make its coming generation worthless by drowning them in alcohol for paper currency called as revenue that too Jammu. Those who championed to be provider of empowerment to Jammuites, is this the way to empower Jammu, he questioned.
As per press statement issued to mercury times, Bupinder appealed civil society to come forward and strengthen the movement of NAUP against this flourishing trade of liquor otherwise intelligentsia of Jammu will repent for their inertia in not stemming this rot.
LG should remember Jammu is city of temples, so he must not bring in culture of unhindered sale of liquor in Jammu.
While appreciating Mr Mathur LG of Ladakh for distributing tablets to the students, whereas LG of Jammu and Kashmir will be remembered for distribution of Liquor licences, he added.
Bupinder strongly recommended that on the pattern of ban on sale and consumption of alcohol in Gujarat, Bihar and Tripura, Mizoram, lakshdeep and Nagaland, a complete ban on sale and consumption of alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir must be put in place.
In highlighting the ill effects on youths, Provincial President Karan Jeet Singh stated the youthful years of our aspiring youths will be severely impacted by this vice that is liquour. So administration should desist from its tactics of making Jammu a hub of alcohol consumption for earning revenue for having palatial bungalows, offices, hefty pay and perks drawn from government exchequer. He feared that Crime rate would rise exponentially due to liquor sale.
NAUP leaders who were present in the protest include Pritam Sharma, Rajesh Gandotra, Netar Pal, Pankaj langoo, Uttam Chand and Mohit Dabgotra.
