Udhampur, November 15:
A narco-trafficker’s house and five commercial properties were demolished in Udhampur district, police said on Sunday.
According to the police, the operation was carried out along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Narsoo village in collaboration with the district administration. The accused has been identified as Makhan Din.
The police spokesperson said the move is a decisive action against narco-criminals. Makhan Din was booked at Rihambal police station last year. He is in custody under PIT NDPS and is currently lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
Investigations revealed that Makhan Din illegally occupied state land and built five commercial properties and a house.
The value of which is said to be crores of rupees. Police said the property was created with illegal money received from the narco trade.
Its destruction was part of a campaign to break the financial structure of drug traffickers.
In a separate operation, the team from Majalta Police Station, Udhampur also attached the property of alleged drug smuggler Vikramjit Kumar, a resident of Inderpuri, Amritsar, Punjab. Investigations revealed that Kumar’s duplex house was purchased with criminal proceeds generated from the narco-trade. The value of this property is said to be more than 1 crore.
A police spokesperson said that so far this year, properties worth Rs 11.62 crore have been attached under the NDPS Act in Udhampur to strengthen the initiative to make the district drug-free.
