Jammu, December 3:
Former President BJP J&K & Former MP Rajya Sabha Shamsher Singh Manhas meets Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and requested the Honorable Minister to rename Jammu airport as Maharaja Shri Hari Singh Ji airport in Honour of the last ruler of J&K and also submitted a letter in this regard. He further told the Civil Aviation Minister that renaming of airport on the name of Maharaja is a popular public demand of the people of J&K. Maharaja Hari Singh was extraordinary ruler, remarkable social reformer and great thinker who worked for the upliftment of all his subjects, irrespective of class, religion and gender and took great initiatives like compulsory primary education, eradication of untouchability, abolishing polyandry etc and also merged J&K with our great Nation. He further said that successive congress /NC governments ignored the contribution of Maharaja and snatched the due credit and recognition he deserved from the Government. He said that renaming the Airport in the name of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji will be an appropriate tribute to the great soul .
After giving a patient hearing to Ex MP Sh. Shamsher Singh Manhas the Honorable Minister for Civil Aviation assured him that request which Manhas made on the behalf of the people of J&K will be considered and honoured. He further assured him that he will discuss the issue with the Honorable Lt. Governor of J&K as well.
