Srinagar, December 9:
The Shyok Tunnel, dedicated to the nation in eastern Ladakh. This tunnel has opened a year-round access to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China. This tunnel will ensure all-weather connectivity to forward military posts. In case of war or emergency, this tunnel can be used as a secure bunker.
This 920-meter-long tunnel is located on the Durbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldie road. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Shyok Tunnel on December 7th. It is a significant India’s defensive line on the LAC has now become more impregnable as it can be used as a bunker.
Reporting from ground zero on Monday, Lt Col Ravindra Singh Mehla, Commanding Officer of the BRO 1445 Bridge Construction Company, spoke about the strategic importance of the Shyok Tunnel.
He stated that the tunnel will ensure the year-round movement of troops, weapons, ammunition, and essential supplies.
