Former Minister and Jammu Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP), senior leader, Manjit Singh and party workers today paid tributes to the portrait of Dr BR Ambedkar on his birth anniversary.
Recalling him as a great social reformer of India, Manjit Singh said, Bhimrao worked for the downtrodden communities thoughout his life.
“The purpose of pursuing highest level of education was also to empower the neglected communities irrespective their caste, creed and faith,” he said.
The former minister said that Bhim Rao Ambedkar himself had faced discrimination and then, he removed it with his efforts bringing the neglected section of society on equal platform.
“The reservation in jobs and educational institutions has given immense opportunities to the children of the poor families to get good education to achieve what they desire in life,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Manjit Singh said that the Government should follow the policy adopted by the father of Indian Constitution.
The citizens of the country should be treated equally and provided equal opportunities in every spare of life to achieve the goal set by Bhim Rao Ambedkar, he said.
“Previous Government failed to fulfill the dream of Bhim Rao in Jammu and Kashmir where Other Backward Classes (OBC) people are granted only 4-percent reservations, instead of 27-percent,” he said.
They appealed the Government of India that the OBC people should also be given 27 percent reservation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Why OBC community is being ignored in one-nation policy of BJP? questions Manjit Singh. The former Minister said that the BJP has not given rights of OBC community to them in Jammu and Kashmir when it claims to be the representatives of all the section of society.
“There is no sabka-sath and sabka-vikas is being ignored for certain reasons known the leadership of BJP in Jammu and Kashmir,” he alleged.
These people were the worst sufferer of the discrimination from all the previous Government and were expecting that their rights will be restored in shape of reservation like all other states of the Country. However, it never happened, he alleged.
He appealed the Government to accept the long pending demands of the OBC community and given them their due share in reservation as promises in the Indian Constitution of the Country.
