Jammu, January 10:
As part of the anti-drug drive, the Gangyal police have arrested a Kashmiri youth who was smuggling heroin from Purmandal Morh.
About 11 grams of heroin-like narcotics have been recovered from the possession of the accused. The accused has been identified as Wasim Aslam Dar son of Mohd Aslam Dar, of Natipora, Nowgam, Srinagar (Kashmir).
Late on Friday evening, the Gangyal police had set up a naka at Purmandal Morh. Meanwhile, a pedestrian, who was going towards Kunjwani from the side of the Bari Brahmana.
Suddenly turned back after seeing the police party. The police became suspicious of his suspicious act. The police personnel immediately chased and caught him.
When questioned by the police, the young man initially refused to reveal his identity. During the search, about 10-11 grams of heroin-like narcotic substance was recovered from the possession of the accused. He was later arrested on the spot.
A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Gangyal police station. The police are now trying to find out from where the accused got the consignment of drugs and where it was to be supplied.
Police say that strict action will continue against those involved in the drug trade and other accused associated with this network will also be arrested soon.
