The Jammu Municipal Corporation is establishing dog feeding points at various locations throughout the city. These points will be established in all 75 wards of the city. After this, people will leave food for dogs at these feeding points instead of throwing it on the streets. This will prevent stray dogs from roaming the streets and will also reduce dog bite cases.
The Municipal Corporation has begun identifying such feeding points in all 75 wards of the city. Following the Supreme Court’s directive, the corporation has expedited this process. The process of opening these feeding points will begin in the next two to three months. Residents will then have to go to these feeding points near their neighborhoods and leave food for the dogs.
The corporation claims that dogs are very intelligent. Once they know that food is available in a specific location, they will all gather there, reducing their wandering in the streets. Currently, many people leave food for dogs outside their house gates. Many dogs gather in the streets to eat it, and sometimes become aggressive when they don’t get food.
The Jammu Municipal Corporation will launch an awareness campaign to discourage the habit of feeding dogs in the open. People will be encouraged to leave their food at dog feeding points set up nearby. This will not only prevent food waste but also provide convenience to dogs. Teams of supervisors and sanitary staff will be formed to raise awareness in the streets and neighborhoods.
