Jammu, July 28:
A speeding Mahindra Thar (number JK02DP-9594) hit 65-year-old Kamal Kant Dutta along with his scooter (JK02BS-6435) in the Green Belt area of Gandhi Nagar.
Even after the accident, the driver did not stop, instead he went some distance and reversed the Thar in reverse gear and deliberately tried to run over Kamal Kant who had fallen on the road. Seriously injured Kamal Kant somehow saved his life.
The entire incident has been captured in the CCTV camera installed there.
Kamal Kant Dutta, a resident of Gandhi Nagar and a businessman, was rushed to GMC Jammu by passersby, where he has been admitted to the ICU. According to family members, he is in a coma and his condition remains very critical.
The family says that despite the incident, the police did not become active at first. Later, when the CCTV footage came out, the police swung into action and registered a case.
Kamal Kant Dutta’s son said that he has no old enmity with anyone. The Thar driver who tried to trample his father is not known to his family. Such a person should be arrested immediately and legal action should be taken against him.
SP City South Ajay Sharma said that the Thar vehicle involved in the incident has been seized. The owner of the Thar has been called to the police station for questioning, while the driver is still absconding. Police say that the accused has been identified and strict legal action will be taken against him.
