In Jammu Division a project of worth crores of rupees is on the verge of being ready in the field of health.
Coming six months, the three major hospitals will be opened for patients. These include the new building of Indira Gandhi Dental College Jammu, Bone and Joint Hospital Jammu and Sub District Hospital Akhnoor. Patients will get relief from the formation of these hospitals.
The work of Bone and Joint Hospital in Jammu is in the final stage. The construction work of this hospital, which is being prepared with a budget of Rs 38 crore, started on 13 February 2019. The work was started by the then Principal GMC Dr. Sunanda Raina. Its target was to complete the construction work in two years but the work could not be completed within the stipulated time frame. Now the work is going on in full swing to complete this project. In between, the work was interrupted due to Covid but the GMC administration hopes that the work of the hospital will be completed in a few months. It will soon be opened for patients.
GMC Principal Dr. Shashi Sudan says that Bone and Joint Hospital will open for patients this year. The works are in the final stages. However, there will definitely be a problem in starting the hospital that additional staff has not been appointed for this. Faculty members of the Department of Orthopedics will run this hospital.
The sub-district hospital of Akhnoor is also ready to open for the patients. This month the hospital will be dedicated to the patients. This hospital, built at a cost of about Rs 32 crore, will have all modern facilities.
Three operation theaters have been built in this three-storey hospital. Lifts have been installed to ensure that the patients do not suffer.
The capacity of this hospital is 100 beds. According to a high official of the Health Department, the hospital building is completely ready. It is expected that by next week it will be opened for patients.
At the same time, in the month of June-July this year, the new building of Indira Gandhi Dental College will also be dedicated to the patients. This building is in Ambaphala and it is being prepared at a cost of about 44 crores. In this new block, there will be five departments apart from emergency ward, ward, operation theatre, administrative block. These include the departments of Prosthodontics and Dental Materials, Pedodontics, Oral Pathology, Dental Histology and Community Dentistry.
