GDC Padder celebrates ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’

Kishtwar, November 16:
Government Degree College (GDC) Padder celebrated ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ on the occasion of the birth anniversary of a brave tribal freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda at its campus,Atholi Padder under the guidance of Principal Anirudh Sharma. On that occasion Dr Jewan Lal ,Dr Subhash Chander,Prof Khail Raj and all the teaching and non teaching faculty members were present and offered floral tributes to the portrait of Birsa Munda.
Dr Subhash Chander had outlined the life and history of Birsa Munda and his Struggle against the exploitation of British Government. He further said, “at a young age revolutionary movements and struggles organised by Birsa Munda were marked by his immense courage and supreme sacrifice ”.He opined that we need to work for all round development of tribals of the region and should paid tribute to all other unsung heroes who worked tirelessly for the betterment of the society.
Dr. Jewan Lal Associate Professor, delivered a lecture on the life and major contribution of freedom fighter Birsa Munda . He said “Birsa Munda(15Nov.1875-9June 1900) was an Indian tribal freedom fighter, religious leader and a folk hero belonging to the Munda tribe. Though he lived a short span of life, Birsa Munda is known to have mobilised the tribal community against the Britishers and forced the colonial official to introduce laws protecting the land rights of the tribals”. He said that Birsa Munda was also the founder of new religion called Birsait. He further added “Birsa Munda fought bravely against the exploitative system of the British colonial system and spearheaded movement against British oppression”. He also advised the students to learn from the life of Birsa Munda and raise your voice against exploitation and oppression to take the country forward.
In the end, vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Sandeep Kumar. He opined that Birsa Munda’s life gives us the message that “ you don’t. need a big stage to grow up if you are committed to do something for the betterment of the society and you open your mind to take the society forward by fighting for equality and equality over all the inequalities in the society”.
Later on a volleyball match was also organised by Prof. Rishi Kumar and Prof. Chering Durjee ,as a tribute to the great revolutionary leader ‘Brisa Munda’.The program was culminated by the distribution of refreshment to all the participants. The whole programme was organised and coordinated by Dr Subhash Chander ,convenor of Debate committee and Prof. Khail Raj of the college.
