The Indian team led by Rohit Sharma has won the Champions Trophy title after 12 years by defeating New Zealand in the final. In this way, India has won its second consecutive ICC title within eight months. Earlier, the team had won the T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa in June last year. However, at that time Rahul Dravid was the head coach of the team and he left after becoming the champion. This time the team came under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir. He was given the responsibility of head coach a few months ago. Gambhir was accused of being biased and questions were also raised on his policies, but he was successful in getting the team the title in his very first ICC tournament.
Team India started its campaign in Champions Trophy under the leadership of Gambhir amidst all criticism and allegations of bias. India entered this tournament without star fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah who could not recover from injury and hence was out of this tournament. Due to Bumrah’s absence many former players underestimated the current team, but the team registered a spectacular victory against Bangladesh.
