Future of shopkeepers in limbo due to flyover construction, BJP raises demand for rehabilitation

Jammu, March 15:
BJP MLAs demanded proper rehabilitation of 39 shopkeepers affected due to the ongoing flyover construction from Kunjwani to Satwari. BJP MLAs Vikram Randhawa and Narender Singh raised the issue during the assembly session on Saturday morning. They informed the House that the administration has issued notices to the shopkeepers to vacate their shops. Even though they were earlier assured of alternative land before the construction of the flyover.
Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather urged the MLAs to sit on their seats to ensure smooth conduct of the Question Hour. However, after the Question Hour ended, the BJP MLAs again raised the issue. They also sought a response from the government. The Speaker said he cannot force the government to respond to issues during the recess hour.
MLA Randhawa while talking to reporters said that despite the promise of rehabilitation, the shopkeepers of Nai Basti have been given notice to vacate their shops. They are demanding alternative land, which was to be given to them earlier.
