Jammu, September 2:
In Jammu and Kashmir, 2500 roads have been affected and 60 percent of these have been restored. About a thousand roads are still closed. Most of the roads are in rural areas. The loss is estimated to be more than Rs 100 crore. However, the PWD department is assessing.
These include new roads built in the last few years under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. There have been massive landslides on the affected roads. The culverts have slipped at some places. Bridges have also been damaged. This is affecting movement.
PWD is removing debris from the roads with heavy machines. Machines have been shifted from areas where the impact of landslides is less to the affected areas.
The debris has to be lifted and taken several kilometers away. The department will prepare a report of the damage and send it to the central government.
The PWD has suffered losses in Kathua, Samba, Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Kishtwar, Doda, and etc. The losses have been less as there have been sporadic incidents of landslides in other districts of Kashmir division. The department has repaired the roads in Kashmir division with the help of JCB and tipper.
