Udhampur, December 16:
Jammu and Kashmir Police constable Amjad Ali Khan, who was martyred during an encounter with terrorists in the forest of Soan, was today paid homage to him.
A police jawan was killed in an encounter in the forest of Majalta in Udhampur district on Monday evening. There is also information about one terrorist being injured. Due to darkness, the firing stopped late at night but the security forces have surrounded the area. All the surrounding roads have been sealed to eliminate the hidden terrorists.
A police official said that security forces had received inputs about being terrorists in Soan village of Majalta.
It was reported that three terrorists associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed are hiding. They forcibly enter a house and take food. Based on this, the security forces conducted a search operation. Seeing themselves surrounded, the terrorists started firing to escape.
The official said that the encounter took place around 6 pm and lasted for a while. In this, the SOG team of the police was injured who was later martyred. He said that a terrorist is also reported to have been injured in the initial firing. Due to darkness, the operation has been stopped for the night. It will be resumed on Tuesday with the first light of day. Additional forces have been sent to the area to strengthen the cordon and eliminate the terrorists.
The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the agency operation is working closely with the Army and CRPF. He said that a very small team of SOG has surrounded the terrorists. Due to the dark and difficult terrain, the search operation in the forest has been hampered.
