The situation remained tense in Doda district and surrounding areas on Thursday as well. Although the series of protests has stopped due to the imposition of curfew and deployment of security personnel at every nook and corner.
A series of protests started in Doda and Bhaderwah after the arrest of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik on Monday. After clashes during the protests on Tuesday and Wednesday, the police have detained more than 80 people.
Curfew remained in force for the third consecutive day in Doda district on Thursday. Mobile internet and Wi-Fi services were also shut down as a precautionary measure to maintain peace in the district and to prevent tension from spreading through internet media.
The administration on Monday imposed Section 163 of the BNSS Act, which prohibits movement of people without prior permission. Officials said the situation remained peaceful overnight and no new protests were reported. Security personnel were maintaining vigilance.
Amid tensions over administrative high-handedness, security forces have been deployed in large numbers around Doda town, Bhaderwah, Gandoh and Thathri. Barbed wires have been laid near government offices to prevent any untoward incident.
Police vehicles patrolled the area and urged residents to remain indoors.
