New Delhi, April 10:

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has suffered a major setback before the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Captain Rituraj Gaikwad is out due to injury. Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been given the captaincy of the team. He will now be seen leading the team in the upcoming matches.

Chennai will play its next match against Kolkata on Friday. CSK has suffered a major setback before this match. Captain Rituraj Gaikwad is out of the entire season due to an elbow injury. This was confirmed by team coach Stephen Fleming. He said that Dhoni will now be seen leading the team in place of the star batsman.

Chennai Super Kings has surprised everyone by changing the captain in the middle of the season. However, this is not the first time that CSK has handed over the command of the team to someone else. Earlier, the team made Rituraj the captain just before the start of IPL 2024. Apart from Dhoni and Gaikwad, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja have captained the team. Raina was in charge in Dhoni’s absence, while Jadeja was made the completely new captain just before the start of the tournament in IPL 2022. However, the team’s performance was very poor that season and after half the season, Dhoni took back the captaincy and led the team to the title for the fifth time under his captaincy in 2023.

The performance of five-time winner Chennai Super Kings in the current season has not been very good. They have lost four times in the five matches played so far. They defeated Mumbai only in the opening match of the season. Currently, the team is at the ninth position in the points table with two points and a net run rate of -0.889. (Agencies)
