Srinagar, February 23:
The 82 meter long Akhal bridge built on Sindh river in Kangan area was opened for public on Saturday. CM Omar Abdullah inaugurated this bridge which was constructed at a cost of about eight crores. This bridge will connect many villages of Kunmul-Akhal and surrounding areas. On the occasion of inauguration, CM said that Akhal bridge will improve transportation a lot.
This will boost economic activity and development in the region. This will improve the quality of life of thousands of people in the district. Local people will get relief. Local representatives and residents expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for fulfilling their long-standing demand.
The Public Works Department (Roads and Buildings) has constructed the Akhal Bridge over the Sindh River. Its foundation stone was laid in 2008. There were interruptions in its work in between. The work also continued at a slow pace. This took a long time to complete its construction. The problem increased after the steel bridge became unsafe. There is another bridge here which is known as the steel bridge.
