Shopian, March 15:
Police in Shopian district have busted a racket running fake currency.
Police also recovered fake currency notes worth ₹79,000 following a complaint by a local shopkeeper, officials said on Thursday.
The action has led to the arrest of three persons allegedly involved in circulating fake currency notes in the area. The police have registered a formal case and launched further investigations.
The matter came to light when a shopkeeper approached the Shopian police station. He said that a man had used fake currency notes while buying goods from his shop earlier this week.
Police officials said that as soon as the complaint was received. An investigation was immediately initiated.
The authorities started verifying the suspicious transactions and identified the people who were allegedly associated with the circulation of fake currency.
During the investigation, the police conducted search operations and recovered fake currency notes worth ₹79,000 from the possession of the accused persons and their accomplice.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Syed Wani of Batpora Shopian, Mohammad Maqbool Naikoo of Bangum Shopian) and Pirzada Altaf of Tukru Babnad).
The three suspects have been formally taken into custody, officials said.
The police have registered a case at Shopian Police Station.
