To remember one of the most dedicated soldiers in the history of Indian Army, the Batwal Youth Development Committee Jammu celebrated Martyrdom Day on the 14th death anniversary of Hav Chuni Lal Sandhu of 55 Rashtriya Rifles here today. In a statement issued to mercury times, Hav Chuni Lal Sandhu, a resident of Tacharwan Village of Akhnoor was martyred in a militant flush out operation in Kashmir’s Pulwama Sector on 4th December, 2007. Later on, he had Sena Medal (Posthumously) and under the orders of President of India, the mention of his name in a dispatch by the Chief of Army Staff, was published in the Gazette of India 2008 for displaying most conspicuous bravery, demonstrating battle field leadership and laying down his life.
Wreath was laid on the Statute of the martyred Chuni Lal Sandhu. Family of the martyr was all praise for his courage and termed him a source of inspiration for young generation.
“I am proud Martyr Chuni Lal Sandhu and his achievement as he was the number one soldier”, said Hony Captain Kamal Dass Kaith.
Also speaking, BYDC Chairman R.L.Kaith said, “We are proud of our martyrs and should be ready to make every sacrifice for the sake of our country”. Kaith further urged the youths to participate in such events so that they could know about the supreme sacrifices of brave hearts.
In the end, a resolution was passed unanimously to urge the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for renaming Govt Higher Secondary School, Nardhiwala Tacharwan after Martyr Chuni Lal Sandhu.
Beside family members, others who participated in wreath laying ceremony included TSO Retired Rachpal R.Kaith, Subedar Jamit Raj Kaith, Tilak Raj Bassa, Puran Chand Sandhu, Sewa Ram Sandhu, Ganga Ram Motan, Mohinder Pal Motan, Sat Pal Motan, Girdhari Lal Motan and Milkhi Ram Sandhu.
