Jammu, August 9:
There was a stir in the vegetable market in Jammu’s Parade area in the early hours of the morning when the JMC team bulldozed several shops. It was taking anti-encroachment action. Shopkeepers rushed to the spot as soon as the news of the action was received. But when they saw the condition of their shops, they were shocked.
The shopkeepers allege that action was taken without any prior notice. They say that the bulldozer action damaged the shops as well as the goods kept inside. Due to which they have suffered huge financial losses.
Shopkeepers say that their families used to earn their livelihood from these shops. After the sudden action, a crisis of livelihood has arisen in front of them.
At the same time, shopkeepers and the head of the vegetable market have expressed displeasure over the action of the municipal corporation. They say that if the notice had been given earlier, they could have removed their belongings safely.
The shopkeepers have demanded the administration to take stock of the entire damage and provide relief to the affected shopkeepers.
