Ladakh, May 17:
Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) President Charing Dorje Lakruk said that even though there are different opinions among the people for the Lok Sabha elections in Ladakh, all Ladakhis are united in demanding the Sixth Schedule.
He said the unity will not be affected due to the election on the demands of statehood and security measures for Laddha under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. Elections are to be held in Ladakh in the fifth phase on May 20.
There is going to be a triangular contest here. BJP and Congress have fielded candidates from Leh. At the same time, an independent candidate is in the election fray from Kargil. BJP’s Tashi Gyalson, Congress’s T Namgyal and independent Haji Hanifa Jaan are contesting from Kargil.
LaCrook stressed the need for security measures to protect the land and culture of Ladakh. He accused China of encroaching on pasture land used for grazing by local tribes and expressed concern over it.
