Jammu, February 9:
Massive public outrage took to the streets after a meeting of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti at Raghunath Temple against the Tarakot-Sanjhichhat ropeway project. There was a scuffle between the police and the protesters when they were stopped from going towards the MLA’s office.
Locals and small businessmen were opposing the project for fear of losing their livelihood. On Sunday, a large number of locals led by the Sangharsh Samiti took out a rally from the market and marched towards Sridhar Chowk, shouting slogans. People shouted slogans against the BJP and the MLA all the way.
The protesters alleged that the name of the ropeway project was being misled and people were being divided among themselves. Local interests are being ignored. During this time, slogans like stop dividing people, no ropeway, BJP-MLA answer, kept echoing.
