Incidents of cheating through ATMs are constantly coming to the fore in Jammu city. Fraudsters change their cards by promising help to people who come to withdraw money from ATMs. They get a PIN and clear the amount from the account.
In one such latest incident, the city police have arrested a woman from Udhampur district, who was cheating people by changing their ATM card.
Such vicious thugs were active around various ATMs in the city. She used to offer help to people using ATMs by posing as helpers.
During this time, she would cleverly change the victim’s card and withdraw money from the account by knowing the PIN code.
Acting on a complaint, the police had apprehended the man, who hails from Kashmir, and recovered nine ATM cards from his possession.
Police say the thugs especially target the elderly, women and people less familiar with technology.
At the same time, the police have taken such cases seriously. Police have increased patrolling around the ATM and the suspects are being monitored through CCTV footage. Also, the general public has been appealed to be vigilant and not to seek the help of any stranger.
