The ongoing campaign against illegal occupation in the city is becoming a big challenge for the administration.
In the last few months, during the crackdown at several places.
The JDA team not only faced fierce opposition but also incidents of stone pelting and pushing.
While removing encroachments, sometimes the situation deteriorated so much that the matter reached the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
On February 14, stones were pelted at the revenue, JDA and police team that had come to demolish illegal houses in Belicharana. Several employees were injured.
On January 17, the team had to return to the same area due to local protests.
On December 5, the joint team, which arrived in Gol Gujral to remove encroachments, faced the wrath of the Gujjar community. Three police officers, including the SHO, a head constable, a JCB driver and a media person were also injured in the stone-pelting.
Similarly, there was a tense situation during the operation in Satwari, Trikuta Nagar, Bahu Fort, Talab Tillo and Narwal.
Experts believe that the operation cannot be successful without a joint action plan, adequate police force and strict post-action monitoring.
Otherwise every action will continue to turn into a confrontation.
