Jammu, October 4:
The terror of wild monkeys in Vijaypur, a border Kandi region of Jammu division, shows no signs of abating. These monkeys are not only destroying maize crops but also making other seasonal vegetables their diet. Farmers say that these groups of wild monkeys, which have migrated from the forests and hilly areas of Samba district to the residential plains, are causing havoc everywhere.
The nuisance of wild monkeys is rampant in the Kandi region. These monkeys are unstoppable, preying on corn and other crops during the day. These troublemakers are ruining the hard work of farmers.
These days, the Kharif season crops are almost ready to ripen. However, wild monkeys are ravaging the Kharif crops, including maize, millet, sorghum, and mustard, in these ripe Kandi areas.
Farmers are finding no way to get rid of the nuisance caused by wild monkeys. They have appealed to the district administration and the Wildlife Conservation Department to take appropriate steps to drive away and capture the monkey groups that have entered residential areas.
Troubled farmers Hans Raj, Bodh Raj, Govind Ram, Dharampal, Devi Ditta, Harvansh Lal, Chaman Lal, Mulkh Raj, Nazir Ahmed, Amin Malik, Sadiq, Majid Hussain and others said that hundreds of wild monkeys from hilly and forest areas have reached residential villages these days.
