‘Strict guard not appropriate for democracy’: MP Ruhullah says ‘don’t let what has been happening in Kashmir repeat

Srinagar, October 11:
National Conference MP from Srinagar Agha Syed Ruhollah Mehdi strongly objected to the deployment of heavy security forces in the national capital New Delhi. However, it is to prevent protesters from going to Jantar Mantar.

Hitting out at the central government, he warned that such restrictions and strict guards on democratic rights are not appropriate for any vibrant democracy.
In a post on social media platform X from his official handle, MP Ruhullah Mehdi said that as a Kashmiri, such heavy deployment and restrictions of security forces are not new or alien to him. But it cannot be considered normal.
Ruhullah Mehdi wrote in the post, “Heavy security forces gathered in the heart of the Indian capital to prevent civilians from reaching Jantar Mantar.

This is not a good sign for any democracy. Being from Kashmir, none of this is new or surprising to me. We don’t like it at all. We warn that this is what has been happening in Kashmir. Don’t let it happen all over India.
