Jammu, October 8:
In Jammu and Kashmir, instead of picking up and throwing waste. There will be an emphasis on reuse and connecting it with new businesses.
The government has implemented the Jammu and Kashmir Circular Economy Policy-2026. The scope of the policy is not limited to waste management alone. Waste from homes, shops and markets will be linked with reuse and recycling of garden items, plastics, food waste and construction debris.
A target of 25,000 jobs has been set in five years. The plan is to train 18,000 people, connect 90 startups and 4,500 artisans and small repair businesses.
Under the policy, repair, reuse and recycling of old goods will be encouraged. Plastic-packaging and e-waste will be linked to the authorized recycling regime. The organic waste generated from orchards, mandis and food businesses will also give a boost to the business of making compost and other useful products.
There will be arrangements for segregation of garbage from 9 shops and door-to-door collection. There will be a system of segregating four types of waste from the house and sending it for recycling after sorting the dry waste.
